The Young and the Clueless

In “The Young and the Economically Clueless,” (Wall Street Journal February 20-21, 2016) regarding the overwhelming political support of young people for Bernie Sanders, Daniel Arbess asks: “Why are young people voting against their own interests?”

The writer cannot answer the contradiction posed by his question because it is outside the economic realm. He is unfamiliar with two important sociological facts that are discussed in my last book, “Neither Left Nor Right”:
1. The primary determinant of an individual’s social and political thinking and behavior is his socio-political character structure.
2. The anti-authoritarian transformation of Western civilization that occurred around 1960.

This transformation, the result of the so-called ‘sexual revolution,’ was accompanied by the almost complete destruction of the authoritarian family and, with this, a dramatic shift to the left in the political thinking of mainstream Americans. This culminated, in 2008, with the presidential election of a full-fledged, pseudo/liberal communist, Barack Obama.

The clueless young were not in a position to have learned anything about the destructiveness of Obama’s or Bernie Sander’s socialism because, as the writer notes, the eldest of these young people were in elementary school when the Soviet Union collapsed. Moreover, they are generally clueless about the significance of historical events.

More importantly, these children are the product of the baby boomer generation that were growing up during the 60’s. Many of these were the product of broken homes and therefore had little or no parental, authoritative guidance in their development. What many of these offspring experienced was just the opposite, brattiness and rebelliousness in their parents.

Bernie Sanders, a self-claimed socialist, is the ideal role model as a leader for these helpless, clueless young people. Incapable of caring for themselves, Sanders becomes the all giving,”free lunch” father that, in their clueless eyes, will take care of them. The economic stresses that these young people face in today’s times merely intensifies their anxieties about the future, justifies their anger at the world and increases Sander’s attractiveness to them.

Apropos of Donald Trump

Individual and socio-political character are the primary determinants of an individual’s, including politician’s, thinking and behavior. For example, is presidential candidate, Donald Trump simply a shrewd, controlling bully in full charge of himself regarding his bid for the presidency or is he just a loose cannon and a blowhard? This distinction depends on whether he is simply a phallic narcissistic character with an oral unsatisfied block, a manic depressive (“bi-polar”) character or a sociopathic character.

In the first case his judgment would be intact and would not detrimentally affect his job as president. In the second and third cases he would be a disaster. We need to know more about his decision making process and his past history in order to determine his capacity for good judgement.

The Sexual Misery of the Arab World

An article with the same title appeared in the Sunday, February 12 edition of The New York Times. The author, Kamel Daoud, writes about the extreme authoritarianism in the Arab World, it’s degradation of women and the destructive emotional, including sexual, consequences on the people. He alludes to the destabilizing effects of the Arab media. Influenced by the West’s media they peddle the promise of unattainable bodies of Lebanese singers and dancers and impossible sex to Arab youths. The Internet and religious TV shows have taken monstrous forms often devolving into the undisguised expression of the secondary, destructive layer of armored humans, a kind of porno-Islamism.

The writer, intuitively understands that the driving force behind suicide bombers originates from their frustrated sexual longing. Suicide is equated with the fantasied orgastic release.

The social breakdown that is currently happening in Middle East countries first started in the West around 1960, when Western society transformed from authoritarian to anti-authoritarian. This was heralded as the “sexual revolution.” When in 2011 it spread to the Middle East as the Arab Spring, it was hoped to bring freedom and happiness to the Arab world. In fact, it did exactly the opposite. It resulted in the hell on earth that we see today. This is a vivid example that armored people are incapable of living with the amount of freedom that they mystically long to be given to them by their leaders. To the degree that they are individually armored they need their armored social conditions to survive. The sexual chaos that is occurring in the Arab World is qualitatively the same but quantitatively worse than that which is happening in the West.

Before any real progress can happen in the Middle East and elsewhere, a distinction must be made between people’s feelings of genuine love that move outward unimpeded by armor from their biological core (“healthy sex”) and people’s incapacity to experience these feelings because of their armored condition (“sick sex”). Without making this distinction and dealing with its consequences, all “freedom movements” where ever they originate from will fail.

Taking The Psyche Out Of Psychiatry

The following is an excerpt from my forthcoming book, “Clueless”:

“In the past, psychiatrists were physicians who dealt with the patient’s psychic as well as somatic functions. Today, psychiatrists solely deal with the patient symptomatically by prescribing medication. For them, the patient’s psyche is not in their medical province.

According to current psychiatric thinking, the source of the patient’s mental illness, as defined by the DSM system, is the result of localized pathology in the brain. This is mechanistic thinking and a throwback to the 19th century when it was commonly believed that each part of the brain was a center for designated psychic faculties such as reasoning, empathy etc. The psyche was equated with the human brain.

This return to an antiquated view of the psyche came about in three stages. First, Freud’s psychologically based ideas on sexuality (libido theory) had to be repudiated by mainstream psychiatry. Then, the source of psychiatric illness could be replaced by the idea of brain localization. Finally, it could follow mystically that drugs could somehow be “tailor made” to target the brain for every psychiatric disorder.”

Forced Human Migration Is A Weapon Of Mass Destruction

WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) are generally defined in strict, material forms such as nuclear, chemical, bacterial etc., not in terms of using human life itself as a weapon. But, the forced migration of hundreds of thousands of humans from their homes, displacing them into foreign countries while embedding them with Islamic terrorists and disrupting the lives of both these people and those of the nations they end up living in must also be recognized as a weapon of mass destruction.

Using terror to disrupt and destroy human life is an undeniable manifestation of the emotional plague. It is only a matter of time before the public at large becomes aware of it’s existence.
The upside is that we can thank the terrorists for bringing people in contact with it.

The Mystery of the Missing Radicals on the Left

When radicalization is ever discussed in the news it is always understood in terms of extremists on the right. But are there radicals on the left and if there are any, where are they? The answer is that they do exist but now they are in full view of everyone and are often placed in positions of great power such as candidates in the Democratic Party running for the office of president of the United States and the current President himself. Instead of being referred to for what they are, these radical leftists are now called “progressives” or “socialists.”

Radicals on the left are not identified for what they are because of the shift of the political mainstream to the extreme left of center. These radicals politically blend in imperceptibly with today’s social mainstream. The ever shifting leftward of society is supported and maintained by a new form of social armor that was instituted by leftists, the morality of political correctness.

How People Become Radicalized

To be radicalized the individual must shift from the social mainstream to the political extremes either to the left or the right. To understand how people become radicalized, knowledge of their character structure and of their emotional functions are essential.

In general, people who become radicalized to the political right are raised in strict authoritarian families which results in the repression of child’s sexual feelings during childhood and adolescence. The person’s loyalty and respect for the authoritarian father is absolute. In varying degrees, as a result of sexual repression, the child loses contact with his sexual feelings which are then misperceived in an otherworldly, mystical fashion. These are the young people who become Islamic fascists attracted to jihadism and the Islamic State.

When the authoritarian Muslim families and their society are torn apart as in times of war in the Middle East, many children are often left fatherless and adrift. They are the ones likely to fall prey to Imams and jihadist ideologues who begin their indoctrination process by befriending and comforting them. By taking on the role of substitute fathers, these emotional plague characters provide young people with the guidance and love that they long for. Once they have gained the young people’s trust, they are in a position to inculcate mystical ideas of happiness in the afterlife by doing Allah’s wishes and joining a holy war against the hated non-believers.

Another source of potential jihadists are the endless supply of sexually dissatisfied wayward people from anti-authoritarian Western families who seek revenge on the world for their personal misfortunes by joining the Islamic State.

In the Fort Hood Army base and the San Bernardino massacres, some of the Muslims were raised in the free world and in their youth despite their religious upbringing seemed to be impervious to jihadist ideology. In later life, their latent, mystical feelings surfaced and took hold of them turning them into mass killers. Most likely, they were paranoid schizophrenic characters who had unrecognized homicidal tendencies.

It does not matter if the terrorists are imported or home grown.
What matters is that young people’s underlying, pent-up sexual energy is a powerful force that leads them to seek jihadism as a solution to their personal emotional problems. This central fact must first be acknowledged and addressed before worldwide jihadism can be contained and eradicated.

What is the Origin of Political Correctness?

The morality of political correctness appeared spontaneously following the transformation of society from authoritarian to anti-authoritarian beginning around 1960. This was the time when the breakthrough of human destructiveness on all levels of social life first intensified. With the weakening of the authoritarian family and of individual authority on a local level, absolute morality of right and wrong was replaced by the relative morality of political correctness and the collective authority of “Big Brother.” The authority of parents and of individuals was taken over by the authority of peer groups and of big government.

The appearance of the morality of political correctness “out of nowhere” is evidence that people need social armor in one form or another (absolute or relative morality) to contain the destructive forces within them for their personal and social survival.
However, there are qualitative and quantitative differences between the two moralities. Political correctness is more pernicious than the absolute morality of the past authoritarian era because it is restricted to the superficial and destructive layers of human life and therefore is clueless about the existence of good and of evil.

Why Do They Blow Themselves Up?

Terrorist Muslims come from authoritarian, sex-negative families that have been destroyed by the social upheaval that is happening in Middle Eastern countries. Early in their psychosexual development, these youngsters are educated to not feel (to repress) their natural sexual urges. As a result, their pleasurable feelings become twisted, distorted and experienced as something evil. During puberty and adolescence, their feelings intensify and, for some, become intolerable.
These young people are raw material that become indoctrinated and recruited into the jihadist movement by Islamic ideologues. The intolerance that they have for people enjoying themselves is a projection of their own suppressed sexual feelings. It is combined with a mystical loyalty to their fanatic leader that directs them to do Allah’s bidding, turning them into a weapon of mass destruction. Blowing people and themselves up is the sadomasochistic solution associated with an emotional (sexual) release through an act of physical bursting that they have been trained to long for.

What Happened to the Middle East?

As recently as 50 years ago, the Middle East consisted of a number of stable countries controlled by authoritarian dictators where Arabs and non-Arabs generally lived peacefully together. Today, many of these countries are losing their identity as separate nations. The entire area is becoming enveloped in chaos and much of the population is fleeing into Europe and beyond as radical Islamic terrorists are murdering anyone who stands in their way.
Current attempts to understand the reason for this disaster are inadequate because people have no knowledge of the underlying forces at work. The explanations only recognize what is happening on the social surface not on a bio-social, core level. An example of such an attempt at understanding given recently is to blame “civilization’s failure either to overcome or to accommodate the forces of modernity.”
Let us begin by asking another question: What happened to the so-called Arab Spring movement that was supposed to bring democracy to the Middle East and elsewhere? While it may have ended the regimes of secular strongmen in those countries it did not result in expected democratization in any of them. In fact, there has been more violence, chaos and less democracy than there was before the start of the Arab Spring.
Largely unrecognized is that the widespread destructiveness that is happening in the Middle East and Africa today is the direct result of the breakdown of the authoritarian structure of society into anti-authoritarianism that began in the West around 1960 and has spread like wildfire throughout the entire world including the Middle East.
A related question is the following: How can the Arab population in the Middle East who have lived under extreme authoritarian, often tribal conditions for centuries and who belong politically to the far right of center be realistically expected to function overnight in a way similar to people living in a modern, Western-style liberal democracy? This question which goes to the heart of the Arab Spring problem stems from the liberal’s mystical belief in the perfectibility of man through social and political intervention. It is mystical because what is expected is totally unrealistic. This is the belief of liberalism, a secularized version of the idea of salvation through divine intervention that is held by religious mystics on the political right. But from what has happened in the Middle East this form of mystical thinking is clearly far more socially destructive when it comes from the left.
