The Emotional Plague on the far-Left and the Masses of Young People. Part I

The escalation of the emotional plague on the political far-Left is another manifestation of the anti-authoritarian transformation of Western Society, an endemic disease that continues to be universally ignored. Most people particularly the younger generation are clueless and in a state of paralysis regarding their ability to recognize and confront the symptoms of this social infestation. Two recent examples are the youngsters quandary regarding the marijuana problem and the confusion generated by the psychiatric establishment about the homosexual problem. These symptoms of human illness are now dead and buried, no longer worthy of scientific interest. What has replaced them to be worthy of public interest is another political symptom of the plague, the urgent need to provide reparations to Blacks for the past injustice of slavery.

Before dealing with these and other symptoms originating from the political far-left it is necessary to understand how the plague operates. First, there must appear on the political arena fresh, young, self-proclaimed “experts” to “inform” people what “really” is happening in the world. Convinced that they are the chosen ones who know what is wrong with America and how Americans should think and behave politically to “fix” it, these savants also have the ability to “smell out” the average person’s emotional weaknesses. An example is the public’s inability to authoritatively and fearlessly stand up and express contrary opinions to ideas that are socially and politically unacceptable according to the morality of political correctness. The masses inability to effectively oppose the leftist ideologues charges that are filled with anti-American hatred combined with their own feelings of guilt for having it “too good” living in America are recognized and exploited as signs of weakness by the far-left.

This pathological relationship between plague characters on the left and the idealistic youths who are already severely weakened by their daily media exposure to the plague’s infectiousness allows the plague to spread mainly unopposed throughout the free world.

It remains to be seen if the biosocial disease that Reich discovered approx 80 years ago can be accepted in the mainstream before it wrecks havoc on the health that remains in the general population and the social institutions in the U.S. What might help move us in the right direction is my contention that there is a key element missing by both the conventional and functional thinkers which could help support the existence of the Emotional Plague in today’s world. First we need to make a clear distinction between the micro and macro in the social realm as we do in economics. With this established, the idea of a contagious biosocial disease, that existed in the greater social realm (macro) and that could do damage similar to a psychopath unleashing anthrax or another biological or chemical weapon on the general public, may become conceivable to the conventional thinker. If this did occur the conventional and functional thinker could find common ground in wanting to prevent such an occurrence. Then the challenge would be to show that individual characterology (both healthy and diseased) was the starting point and the basis for the ideas that spread from the micro social realm (personal relationships, the family, the community, corporations, associations etc) into the greater social realm (macro).

  3. Considering Steve Diab’s comments: Just thinking about what Steve wrote about this new and critical post by Dr. Konia. I don’t think it can be approached through the intellect or through reason. Everyone tends to believe that his or her view is right, that it makes sense. As I see it, Dr. Konia is pointing to a root problem which requires true clarity and emotional health to effect change. Most people cannot accommodate change. They feel threatened and cannot stand the shift in view, the discomfort, so they remain fixed where they are. It is an extremely frustrating and difficult matter to handle.

    • You are right. It is an almost impossible situation. However, there must be some people who are open minded enough to be able to understand what is happening. These are the ones that we must contact

    • Judy, I am in complete agreement with you regarding what Dr Konia has laid out in his books and in this blog. But the seemingly insurmountable problem of having Reich’s, Baker’s and Konia’s discoveries, insights and understanding of the human experience from a bio-emotional perspective gain acceptance in some significant segment of society is necessary if outbreaks of the emotional plague are ever to be contained and neutralized. From a handicapping point of view it is obvious and intelligent to place your bets on the plague succeeding in destroying healthy human life at least until the health that remains has no choice but to survive or perish. That being said, it seems a shame to let the treasure chest of knowledge that orgonomic functional thinking provides go to waste when it comes to understanding and preventing massive emotional plague activity in the greater social realm (like we are witnessing at an ever increasing rate). I like to try to figure out problems and have wondered for quite a while how to bridge the gap between high level conventional thinkers and orgonomic functionalism. It will always be close to an impossible challenge but what I was writing about was a new concept that I do not think exists as far as I know. The idea that the social realm has a macro element to it and this is where the destructive seeds of the plague reside and blossom. Food for thought? or an incorrect hypothesis

  6. Has Steve Diab’s theory something to do with the “historical lag” (Ungleichzeitigkeit according to Bloch, but first described by WR in MASSPSYCHOLOGY)? My (“micro-“) character was formed in the early 1960s – and I have to function in the (“macro-“) environment of 2019!

      I do not think that the example you presented (My “micro” character formed in the 60’s and I have to function in the 2019 macro environment) relates to my ideas on the social realm.
      In economics the new concept of the macro was introduced to that science creating a method to view the economy as a whole (national or global). Macro is a branch of economics distinct but related to micro economics.
      A close friend (and colleague of mine) have tried to figure out a way to bridge the gap between functional thinking and conventional thinking in hopes that the knowledge contained in orgonomic functionalism can have a practical use in today’s anti-authoritarian society, in particular, with regards to the emotional plague.
      It dawned on me that the concept of the macro in the social realm (specifically since the transformation to anti-authoritarian society in the 1960’s) might also be applicable in social science and that it could turn out to be a helpful tool in explaining how the emotional plague takes hold and operates in society at large.

    • Steven, I do not quite get your theory, which might be brilliant and a breakthrough as Dr. Konia hopes, obviously. We will see. For the time being I just try to grasp Reich and Dr. Konia:

      REICH, MARXIST: Microeconomics is all about CHOICES made by individuals on the market place: supply and demand. But one cannot understand macroeconomic processes by analyzing these individual CHOICES. This exactly is the basic contention of Marx’: the “macroeconomic” class STRUCTURE and the MECHANISMS of the labor and surplus value theory (the formation, accumulation and macroeconomic processing of capital); a structure and mechanism which functions COMPLETELY independent of the CHOICES of the individual capitalist (and of anybody else!) – as Reich pointed out so vehemently in People in Trouble.

      REICH, ANTIMARXIST: Dr. Konia’s approach is completely different: the STRUCTURAL factor (as first outlined by Reich in 1933 in The Masspsychology of Fascism) is the CHARACTER STRUCTURE of the masses. This “macroeconomic” factor determines the individual CHOICES. With this in mind one can, indeed, understand macroeconomic processes by analyzing these microeconomic individual CHOICES. Why? Because they are a function of the three-layered CHARACTER STRUCTURE which, in turn, was formed by the (past) macroeconomic environment (“historical lag”). This historical lag guarantees that the (“micro”) individual is never in tune with his or her (“macro”) environment but is always clueless.

      Well, maybe I produce here more confusion than clarity…

    Even though we both don’t always understand what the other is trying to express, I appreciate and look forward to your comments and I can tell by what you have written in your comments over the years that we share something that is not as common as one would think (i.e. an admiration for the undistorted version of the orgonomy, Reich’s brilliant contribution to mankind and Dr Konia’s life long contributions and dedication to the science of Orgonomy and the ACO).
